Everyone is invited to come and enjoy Rural Fun Day,
an annual event in Thomaston on the last Saturday in August.
The festival is held at the historic Marengo County High School from
9:00am - 4:00pm.
Rural Fun Day is like a good old-fashioned sampler
of rural Alabama. Celebrate and sample the sights,
sounds, tastes and smells of days gone by. There will be country
dancing, Native American crafts, quilting, basket weaving, pottery
throwing, carding and spinning, tatting and weaving, as well as
gospel singing and story telling. Special children's activities are
planned, including games, contests, and wagon
rides. We also have a domino tournament, and a 5K run. The run is
always a popular event, with participants from local and surrounding
areas, and as far away as New York City.
Although the usual festival food is offered, such as
cotton candy, peanuts, hamburgers and hot dogs, one item you don't
want to miss is our local specialty, Good Ole Thomaston Barbecue.
Flavored with a Thomaston native's secret sauce, it is truly a unique
culinary delight.
